ALEXMALISM (2022)
Released in October 2022, *ALEXMALISM* is a self-titled conceptual album about urban anxiety, digital alienation, and queer desire. Apart from “True or False, You and Me” (《真假你我》), a collaboration with Kelvin T, Yiu wrote, produced, and performed the album. Its songs consider life in a hyper-capitalist city and relationships shaped through digital media. Grounded in Cantonese pop melody, the album draws on deconstructed club, 1990s trip-hop, trap, industrial, breakbeat, and trance.
The album follows the course of one night. “Dusk” (《暮》) includes a section in which a WaveNet AI voice recites Nietzschean philosophy amid cinematic electronic soundscapes. From there, “Virtual Delusion” (《虛擬妄想》) brings together avant-pop and rave elements to consider algorithmic determinism and social isolation, while “Ocean” (《海》) slows into 1990s trip-hop, setting deleted romantic memories against ecological collapse.
As the night deepens, the focus turns towards fractured relationships and sensory memory. “True or False, You and Me” (《真假你我》) places Kelvin T’s industrial production alongside Yiu’s Cantonese pop vocal, addressing ideological division and cognitive dissonance. The more restrained “Fragrance” (《香》) draws on olfactory memory and transience. “Secret City” (《秘密都市》) returns to darker territory: retro-industrial rhythms and a vocal delivery that moves between chest voice and falsetto trace queer desire through Hong Kong’s marginal urban spaces.
At the night’s most anxious point, “Ash” (《灰》) returns to environmental dread through dark trap production. “In the Dream” (《夢裡》) combines dancehall rhythms with stream-of-consciousness writing, as memories begin to blur. Before morning, “Whale・Moon・Starry Sky” (《鯨魚・月亮．星空》) makes room for private fantasy and the act of making. “Dawn” (《晨》) moves from trance into drill, closing the album’s passage from dusk to daybreak.
《ALEXMALISM》於 2022 年 10 月推出，是一張圍繞都市焦慮、數碼疏離與酷兒情慾展開的同名概念專輯。除了與 Kelvin T 合作的《真假你我》外，Yiu 包辦專輯的作曲、填詞、編曲、製作及演唱。作品處理高度資本主義城市中的生活狀態，以及由數碼媒介塑造的關係。專輯以粵語流行曲的旋律為基礎，揉合解構俱樂部、90 年代 Trip-hop、Trap、工業音樂、Breakbeat 與 Trance 等元素。
專輯沿著一夜的時間推進。《暮》中有一段 WaveNet 人工智能聲音朗讀尼采哲學文字，置於電影配樂般的電子聲響之中。其後，《虛擬妄想》結合前衛流行樂與銳舞元素，處理演算法決定論與社交孤立；《海》則放慢至 90 年代 Trip-hop 的節拍，將被刪除的戀愛記憶置於生態崩壞的背景之下。
夜色漸深，專輯轉向關係中的斷裂與感官記憶。《真假你我》將 Kelvin T 的工業製作與 Yiu 的粵語流行唱腔並置，處理意識形態分歧與認知失調。《香》以較收斂的編曲，從嗅覺記憶出發，觸及無常。《秘密都市》再度步入暗處：復古工業節奏與遊走於胸聲、假聲之間的唱法，書寫酷兒情慾在香港城市邊緣空間中的流動。
到了夜晚最令人不安的時刻，《灰》以暗黑 Trap 回到對衰敗世界的焦慮。《夢裡》結合 Dancehall 節拍與意識流書寫，讓記憶開始變得模糊。天亮之前，《鯨魚・月亮．星空》暫時轉向創作與內在想像；《晨》從 Trance 推進至 Drill，為專輯由暮至晨的軌跡收束。
